A police officer from Nsambya, Uganda, has murdered his wife after he found out that he was HIV positive, Tuko reports.
The 36 year old man identified as Godfrey Sabiti, a part of the police VIP Protection Unit commited murder suicide after he found out that his wife, Caroline Akol, was HIV negative but he was HIV positive.
Police reports indicate that Sabiti took his whole family over an HIV test on January 21, 2017. However when he found out that he was HIV positive he made a wrong decision and murdered his wife.
“We have recovered the test results of HIV for the wife, Akol and the children except for the man. These reads negative. We suspect that the man must have found himself positive and took a wrong decision. He planned it since he took all the family members for HIV test on January 24, 2017,” said a spokesperson for the Kampala police force.
This is the second police officer to commit suicide in the last months. Last December Patrick Oloya took his own life after locking himself inside the uni-port of the Police barracks.
A psychologist and crime specialist stated: “The trained personnel see too much brutality in life, have so many problems but have no one to talk to so that they get some guidance on how to handle some circumstances. A psychologist is so important in organisations but the Ugandan system does not recognize this.”
