CCT Trial: Shocking Reasons Buhari and APC Have Refused to Save Saraki

Posted by George on Wed 06th Apr, 2016 - tori.ng

Emerging details have revealed why President Muhammadu Buhari and the APC leadership have turned a blind eye to the sorry plight of Saraki at the CCT with mind-blogging exposure of corrupt practices being uncovered.

More facts have emerged on why the Presidency and the All Progressives Congress will not save the President of the Senate, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, from his trial at the Code of Conduct Bureau and his now obvious exit from his position and as the Chairman of the National Assembly, according to the Eagle online.

Sources in the know said Saraki is believed to be behind the orchestrated media attacks on the Presidency and the party. It was gathered that some of the attacks were allegedly planned and executed in his office and by people linked with him.

It was also gathered that Saraki may have engaged some first timer senators who were given committee chairmanship to arm twist and blackmail the Presidency over his trial by the CCT.

Saraki is facing trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal on a 13-count charge bordering on alleged corruption and false declaration of assets while he was the governor of Kwara State.‎

A correspondent learnt that since the CCT fixed the date for Saraki’s trial, the embattled Senate president has engaged in all sorts of propaganda against the Presidency, the APC and the judiciary. Two senators who benefited from juicy committee chairmanship ‎under leadership of Saraki on Wednesday and Thursday launched a missile against the Presidency on the ongoing trial of Saraki.

A first timer senator, Peter Nwaoboshi,‎ who is the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Niger Delta, issued a threat message to the Presidency and the APC that if Saraki was removed, his party, the Peoples Democratic Party, will produce the next Senate president.

N‎waboshi in the interview decried what he called messages of blackmail against Saraki on account of his trial at the CCT. Another Senator, who was also favoured with juicy committee chairmanship, Isa Misau, is an ally of Saraki.

It was Misau who ‎moved the motion against Senator Kabiru Marafa for utterances said to be against the Senate leadership. Misau, in an interview, accused the Secretary to the Government of Federation, Babachir Lawal, and some others of interfering with Saraki’s trial‎.

Misau had said: “Despite President Muhammadu Buhari’s commendable position not to interfere, there are some hardliners within this government who are still fueling this matter and are, as a matter of fact, interfering with the trial.”

According to him, some elders in the Senate recently met with the SGF in order to find a lasting solution to the problem, but Lawal turned down their request.

“They were surprised by some of his utterances and they reported back to some senators that he vowed that this matter will not be resolved until Saraki goes down for spiting the party leadership,” Misau said.

Misau had noted that 99 per cent of the senators are solidly behind the Senate president, adding that several efforts have been made and are still being made to resolve the matter.

A correspondent observed, however, that most of the senators that keep following Saraki to the CCT trial are those that benefited from the chairmanship of juicy committees and mainly first timers.

Some of them are of the opinion that the removal of Saraki as Senate president will threaten ‎their chairmanship of the Committees in the Senate. Among senators that have been consistent in following Saraki to the CCT are the Chairman, Senate Committee on Navy, Senator Isa Misau; Chairman, Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, Senator Sam Anyawu; Chairman, Senate Committee on Federal Capital Territory, Senator Dino Melaye; Chairman, Senate Committee on Upstream, Senator Tayo Alasoadura; Chairman, Senate Committee on Niger Delta, Senator Peter Nwaoboshi; Acting Chairman, Senate Committee on Downstream, Jubril Barau.

The Presidency and the APC are also said to have traced the vituperations of the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the party, Timi Frank, to Saraki.

Frank is believed to have the backing of Saraki to oppose the position of the party.

He recently accused the leadership of the party of failure to assist Saraki with his trial after he had helped secure victory for the APC in the last general election.

A source told The Eagle Online: “Even if there would have been efforts to resolve the issue, it is commonplace to realise that you cannot be throwing stones at your own house.

“That is what Saraki is doing.

“You have a meeting where issues are discussed and the next thing you read is on the pages of the newspapers and online throwing vituperations at the leadership of the party and the President.

“Is that how things are done?

“Look at the issue of the SGF.

“Should have have been attacked that way by Senator Misau?

“Truly it is not if he will go as Senate president.

“It is when and who will succeed him.”
