Another riot has emerged in the Lagos metropolis in Mile 12 as hoodlums are reportedly vandalising vehicles. Unconfirmed source disclosed that a school in the area has also been razed.
Few hours ago, there were reports of gunshots as four people were reported shot and killed in a riot which occured at the Mile12/Agiliti area of Lagos metropolis.
The Lagos Police Rapid Squad (RRS) who stormed the location of the Mile 12 ethnic clash between Hausas and the Yorubas community, said they have made some arrest at the scene of the disturbances.
Channels TV reports that residents of the area have remained indoors for fear of being attacked as speculation that an ethnic clash might be the cause of the fracas which began in Agility area of Mile 12.
Eyewitnesses say four people have been killed and as of the time of filing this report, no one has been able to give reasons for the crisis. However, heavy gun-battle was still underway, even as security operatives make some arrests.
According to reports, the fight is said to have broke out about 2 nights ago, following an accident involving a motorcyclist who reportedly ran into a one-way route within the area and he was almost lynched for hitting a pedestrian.
The motorcyclist was asked to take the injured pedestrian to the hospital and somehow the situation degenerated, in that the rider was an Hausa man and the injured was allegedly Yoruba.
Traders in the popular Mile 12 market were attacked with their goods destroyed.
The Lagos Police Rapid Response Squad, who stormed the scene some hours ago, said they have arrested some troubled making hoodlums and dislodged weapon wielding youths from Agiliti link bridge.
The Police added that they have been keeping aggrieved Mile 12 youth in check and preventing them from crossing the Agiliti Link Bridge.
The Law Enforcement also said they 'mobilized community, opinion and ethnic leaders to appeal to the enraged youths to lay down their weapons.'
