Nigeria's Senate President Bukola Saraki is currently on trial at the code of conduct tribunal for fraud in asset declaration while in office.

The direction of the trial is currently unknown but lawyers have started looking at the consquences of the offence if he is found guilty in the ongoing trial.

According to the Fifth Schedule of the 1999 Constitution (as amended), if found guilty, Saraki shall face any or all of the following:

1. removal from office,
2. disqualification from holding any public office
3. forfeiture to the state, any property acquired in abuse of office.

However the tribunal chairman, Justice Danladi Umar before adjourning the case to October 21-23rd had ruled that the charges are criminal in nature.

Therefore it's possible criminal punishments be applied. Today's trial (5th of November) witnessed a walk out by Saraki's counsel to protest the contination of the CCT proceeding despite the case being tabled at the Supreme court.
